The Lumen Prize took over the Great Hall of the 700-year old Caerphilly Castle, Wales from 23-28 November 2016 as part of its 5th Global Tour.

Featuring virtual reality and a projected clock that enables you to ‘see sounds,’ the show delighted nearly 800 visitors with its moving image, animations and apps from artists around the world.

The exhibition also featured the work of two Welsh artists – Denbigh-based Mark Eaglen, whose holographic sculpture Transmission Call was longlisted in 2016, and Ronan Devlin’s In Flow which toured globally with the 2015 Lumen Prize.

Lumen was also delighted to welcome over 120 people seeking refuge from war-zones around the world currently living in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. With visitors queuing up to experience vertigo inducing virtual reality, the biggest highlight of the show was Hyperplanes of Simultaneity, winner of the 2016 Lumen Prize Gold Award.

This event is supported by Cadw – the Welsh Government’s historic environments service working for an accessible and well-protected historic environment for Wales.
