“Electric Fields” is inspired by the fields created from electrically charged particles in space. Lines are formed following the paths of positively charged particles. The density of lines at a specific location in space reveals information about the strength of the field at that location. Every single location in space has its own electric field strength and direction associated with it. Consequently, the lines representing the field cannot cross each other at any given point.
The artwork was algorithmically generated using custom code, blending art, mathematics, and computational aesthetics.
Artistic Method:
Each drawing is algorithmically generated using custom-written code in Processing, which outputs a vector-based SVG file. This file directly drives a custom-built plotter equipped with an etching tool, translating digital calculations into precise physical gestures. The tool meticulously scratches away the painted surface of a plastic sheet, revealing the glossy white layer beneath. This unique technique creates exceptionally fine, crisp lines that catch and reflect light, producing a striking contrast against the matte black background. The result is a compelling fusion of computational precision and tactile, handcrafted expression.
