Eorisis is formed by the movement of 256 double pendulums positioned in a circular orientation. A double pendulum is a chaotic and complex system that generates a unique pattern with each swing. The lines vary in width and darkness, depending on the speed and amplitude of each pendulum’s swing. The resulting drawn image is dense, visually striking, and sensitive to initial conditions, representing the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the system.
Eorisis (αιώρησις) in Greek means swing; the periodic motion of a body whose orbit is a circular arc.
The artwork was algorithmically generated using custom code, blending art, mathematics, and computational aesthetics.
Artistic Method:
This artwork was created using a pen plotter with a custom tool that etches the painted surface of a plastic sheet. The machine-controlled movements scratch away the top layer, revealing the glossy white surface beneath. This method allows for very thin, fine lines that shine in the light, creating a striking contrast against the matte black background.
